Small Light, Big Problems
Most people would agree that the most stress-inducing signal in a vehicle is the check engine light. Though it’s useful for telling you something is wrong, it doesn’t inform you what specifically it is. The worst part? The light can be triggered for a number of different things, from a loose gas cap to a blown transmission. It takes an expert set of eyes and ears to determine what the exact problem is. Fortunately for you, High Tech Automotive are those experts.

Causes for the Check Engine Light
The check engine light is one of the most frustrating signals that’s in your vehicle. Unlike other signals that may warn you about brake pad thickness or tire PSI, the check engine light doesn’t give you a clear indication of what’s going on. You’re left to wonder what’s gone wrong with your vehicle and you’re not sure of the severity of the problem. With that said, there are a few things vehicle owners can do to rid themselves of this pesky light. Curious what those things are? No worries, the High Tech Auto team is here to help you out.
Loose Gas Cap
This will be the ideal scenario if your check engine light is on. If this ends up being the case, make sure to stop the car and tighten the gas cap! Also, don’t worry if the check engine light is still on once you fix the problem. You’ll need to drive a few miles before the vehicle can register what you’ve done. If you need a new gas cap, most auto parts stores will sell gas caps for $15 or less!
Bad Spark Plugs
Your spark plugs are responsible for helping the ignite the fuel and air mixture in your vehicle’s cylinders. Without them, your car won’t start. Depending on your vehicle you may need one or two spark plugs, so make sure to check before you go out and buy new ones. Some additional signs of bad spark plugs include lower fuel economy and a noticeable drop in engine performance while you drive.
Without your battery, your car wouldn’t be able to use the radio, power your headlights, or charge your phone. It plays a vital role in the operation of your vehicle and is another cause for a triggered check engine light. If your battery has died and you’re in a pinch, try getting a “jump” from another car. All you’ll need is jumper cables and another vehicle. Take note that older vehicles will have numerous plastic covers protecting the battery.
Though it can be a simple task for some, replacing your battery can be difficult if you’re uncertain with what you’re doing. If this is you, make sure to bring your vehicle to a High Tech Automotive technician! We’ll be able to quickly replace or charge your battery and get you back on the road in no time!
